One of the consequences of the phylloxera crisis suffered in the last century was the substitution of native grapes from each region for other French grapes, which were more productive and adapted to the new production and commercial systems generated.
Phylloxera generated very positive results, new opportunities were created and new oenological techniques were learnt. However, as mentioned above, grapes typical of each area were lost and the characteristics of the wines were unified, losing diversity and their own identity.
From the school we want to give an additional value to our grapes, we have generated a "majuelo" with different grapes, all of them from our area and the Duero river basin. To do this we have studied the different D.O. of this basin and we have planned the planting of the varieties; Bruñal, Garnacha tintorera, Tempranillo, Doña María and Prieto picudo. Grapes that will accompany the grapes we already had when we brought them back from our travels; Cardinal (Bordeaux), Romeiko (Cretan) and Rossetti (Novara).
Click on each D.O. to see the study of each ecosystem.
